TESTIMONIALS

HaRav Moshe Shaul Klein, a
member of HaRav Wosner's Bais Din in Bnai Brak, writes:
"And I wish to inform you that due to my great practical experience, both as a member
of HaRav Wosner's Bais Din and because of the close to 1,000 Sofrim and examiners that I
have tested during the past seven years, I must point out that the knowledge of all the
Halachos is the first requirement to ensure the Kashrut of STaM. There are many Sofrim who
are accepted as fearful and pious people whom I have tested and they did not know the
Halachos. When I asked them how this was possible, they answered that whenever a question
arises they consult a Rav. When I then asked them many questions that they had never even
realized presented a problem because of their lack of knowledge of simple fundamentals,
they began to tremble with fear. These questions were in the realm of Chok Tochos and She-lo
Kesidron, things that cannot be checked later on."
Rabbi Mordechai Friedlander, (originally a Rosh Yeshiva in Brooklyn) who for the
last 12 years serves as a Rav and permanent examiner for the Vaad office in Yerushalayim
writes:
"Many times I stood astonished how Sofrim who are great Talmidei Chachamim in both
Nashim and Nezikin but don't have the faintest knowledge of STaM, dared to take upon
themselves the permission to write for the public. How great is the problem caused by Chok
Tochos and She-lo Kesidran. As I write these lines, I am reminded that more than four
years ago, a very esteemed Sofer, approximately 55 years old, made the following casual
remark: 'I wrote the Sefer Torah in my shul and many times I've formed letters through
Chok Tochos, simply because I didn't study the Halachos of STaM properly. At this time I
certainly cannot recall all the places where I made corrections.' It's just
unbelievable!" |
