" A baker is not trusted when asked about his baked
goods."
(See B'raishis Rabba Section 34) This is a common Jewish Halachik principal, for which
Jewish laws are applied in many aspects of daily life...
In the food industry, we purchase products only if they bear a
certification of Kashruth from a known and reliable supervisory
organization, and we only patronize restaurants which are carrying an appropriate
Hashgocho.
STaM is considered, in Halacha (Jewish law,) even more important than food!
THIS IS WHY A CERTIFICATE OF KASHRUT IS SO IMPORTANT. IT IS A WRITTEN
GUARANTEE OF QUALITY AND AN ASSURANCE THAT YOUR STaM IS FREE OF DEFECTS.
Each of the Mezuzot or Tefillin we sell comes with a computerized
numbered certificate, which is verifiable. Since no two Mezuzot or Tefillin are identical,
if you fax the Mezuzah or Tefillin (or its copy) to the Vaad Mishmereth STaM computer
center, the computer will scan it, identify it (out of close to a million Mezuzot and
Tefillin) and be able to tell you the number of the certificate, and the identity of the certified scribe who wrote it.
HaRav A.Y.H. Bick, at an important meeting called by the
Vaad Mishmereth STaM, asked:
"If someone were to import meat from Israel
without revealing the name of the one giving the Hashgocho on the meat, would any
religious person dare buy it? Then why do people buy STaM without knowing the reliability
of the writer... Are Tefillin and Mezuzos, which are used on a daily basis, less important
than eating kosher meat? A Sofer must know many more Halachot than a Shochet, so why the
great laxity?"
